Today we are exploring the many ways to use Open Stitches.  Today's stitch is called Concentric Squares.

This stitch is really multi-purpose meaning it can be used as both a full coverage stitch and an open stitch.  Let's explore!

We are demonstrating on 13 Mesh and using a Size 12 Kreinik (remember, we normally use Size 16 Kreinik on 13 Mesh for most stitches).  We start by making a square with each side over 2 canvas threads.  Then, we add three more squares with each one over 4, 6 & 8 canvas threads.  In addition to Kreinik, it would be great to use an overdyed floss or silk.

We like using this stitch over the entire canvas, so the beauty of the painted canvas show through even though the squares are on top of it.  This is a great method which is a good technique to know.  In addition, this is a really easy stitch, so if you want the look of a decorative stitch, but the ease of basketweave, this is a good alternative.
